Read MoreSoftware Guy Photo editors come in different flavors - there are optimizers, and basic editors, full featured editors, specialty editors and creative editors. The editors get more complex and harder to learn as features are added, and as the feature list grows, the user pool diminishes. So everyone can benefit from optimizers and basic editors. More serious users will need a full featured editor like Zoner, and the artsy types will need creative suites.
IMHO if I had to pick a best overall, it is Zoner. It is full featured AND easy to use. Plus it handles the entire photo workflow from import to viewing and photo management and it does it far better than the others. The new quick edit panel is great and easy to use. It has a quick filter panel too. And lets say you want to touch up/optimize the photos you just imported - easy to do. Want a slideshow ? it is in there. Want to experiment with HDR? it is in there. The viewer is excellent.
In general, getting the home version entitles you to a discount to the pro should you need it, so you can look at this deal as getting the pro version at 50% off. But IMHO the home version will meet the needs of most users nicely.
Photos have universal appeal. You don't need an expensive camera to take great photos. Just try Zoner on those photos that you already have.
Bottom line: Zoner is giving away for FREE a version of their excellent and latest Home editor. Get it if you don't already have it.

Read MoreThe Beloved Since my beloved iGrafx Picture Publisher had been assimilated by Corel almost ten years ago and there had never been fixes for some nasty bugs in it, the vacuum it left in the graphics sector nowadays has been filled with many alternative products . Though Photoshop, the reference for many years, is still the king when it comes to retouching graphics, the competitors have come very close to Photoshops functionality and in some cases they have added unique features and surpassed Photoshop now.

In the past months I had to do a little private graphics editing project, mainly cropping, rotating and perspective equalization, but I didn´t want to install the meanwhile very bloated Photoshop trial again on my new computer so I tried out some alternatives. After some testing freeware and open source that all had some minor or major drawbacks compared to photoshops workflow II stumbled over a giveaway of Zoner Photo Studio 14 Home.
To be honest, firstly I´d been very sceptical.
But it took me only a short while to love the program now. It is more than an adequate replacement for my old Picture Publisher 10 and it is even a good alternative to Photoshop. The program is very stable and the workflow is nearly perfect. Hats off!!!
In my experience and perception now Zoner Photo Studio is probably the most underrated Photo Suite out there. And I´m sure I will keep it installed.

The main difference I did recognize for my needs from Home to the Pro version is the lack of a barrel distortion function in Home (and Free).

Overall a very sublime product. I think, you can´t go wrong if you give it a try!

If you live in German region you can get the Zoner Photo Studio 14 Pro !!! on the actual issue of CHIP for free!!!

Thank you very much Zoner! And alle the best wishes!

Kenneth Bates I have used Zoner since version 14 when I upgraded from the free version to the Home version. Just a few months ago, I upgraded again to version 15 and can thoroughly recommend it.

For many of the functions it is similar to ACDSee but I actually prefer Zoner, for one function in particular.... That is its ability and ease in correcting converging verticals, such as when photographing along a street with tall buildings on each side. True, some (even free) programs will convert "leaning" verticals but Zoner beats them all.

Read MoreZoner Software Hello,

Zoner Software Customer Support here. It's encouraging to see lively discussion open up before the promotion has even started!

Regarding the question by Paul Passarello, the Bits du Jour version will semi-automatically install any updates (patches) to version 15 we release, just like a normal version.

Regarding the question by Jus Kom: Home is not Pro. Home and Pro are the two paid editions of the program. Pro offers somewhat more and costs somewhat more.

Regarding Free vs. Home, Software Guy's tip is great in my opinion so I'll leave that at that!

Zoner Software Hello Larry,

Without seeing the error messages and the phase(s) where they appeared it's hard to say for sure, but most commonly, errors during installation are caused by incomplete or corrupted download of Zoner Photo Studio's installer program.

I hope you get installation to work out soon!

Zoner Software Hello RichU,

Yes, you will retain Zoner Photo Studio 14 as Pro. Differently-numbered versions have no negative effects on each other.

(An older version's settings, etc. can affect the newer version positively by being imported into it when you install the newer version. That's the only effect different numbered versions have on each other.)

This is both. :-)

For 32-bit users, the installer installs a 32-bit version only.

For 64-bit users, the installer installs a 32-bit version and a native 64-bit version. It does this because two minor features are 32-bit only: the Media Archive, and integration with Google Earth.

- Comprehensive features for basic and advanced editing.
- Very intuitive for a full featured program
- Online tutorials on their web site are well written and easy to understand
- I started with the free Photo Studio 14 home version and bought two PRO licenses when they made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

The PRO version's extra features were what I wanted for even more sophisticated photo editing in special cases.

Program installation on both of my older Core 2 Duo systems was no problem with win7 x64 Home Premium.

Read MoreErik Piper Hello DroidLuvr,

I really need to get our account a neat logo too, I am loving the ones people are using...

There is only one installer, and installs both 64-bit and 32-bit automatically and unavoidably. The 32-bit version should be kept for safety's sake. It's a little more than 100 megs, which is a bit of a waste, but isn't all that bad in light of the kind of disk sizes typically found on a computer that's likely to be running 64-bit.

Regarding discounted upgrades, I will have to ask if there is any specific special discount, though I don't believe there is. However, there is always the standard Home-Pro upgrade discount on the zoner.com website:

http://www.zoner.com/en/buy/pro#discount

Just enter the code that you got with your BdJ "purchase" on that page to get the discount.

Hi Peter & Olen O'Neil

But in all fairness, the softwares here are not just one day installs.
Once you get a software here, it yours to keep.

Over at GOTD, you can basically only install it once, then you have to toss it.

I prefer Bitsdujour that way, I hate to get a nice software in a giveaway, just to reinstall my computer the day after and loose that giveaway.

Sadly tho, when you have giveaways like Bitsdujour, the developers, some times might feel a need to limit the giveaway a bit.

Another nice part with Bitsdujour, that GOTD lacks is, if you loose your giveaway file, lets say, a computer crash, but still has the activation emai, you can get the software from the developer and register it again.

Read MoreZoner Software Hello,

Apologies for keeping so many of you waiting for "Zoner-dependent" answers since yesterday.

@Gaelle Logeais, @marko ifebo: No new French translations are currently planned. We do have a French Zoner Photo Studio 13 however, available for purchase at www.zoner.fr.

@marko ifebo: You don't need to be on Facebook for the giveaway.

@Olen O'Neil: When we give away licenses like this, we have to send bunches of licenses - there's no way to just pass them as-needed. That's why they can run out. Giveaway of the Day uses 1-day-only key-free versions (at least for our giveaways), which as you say avoids this problem, but it also is annoying for users who have computer crashes etc.

Looks like the lesson from all this is: expect a bigger demand next time and start BdJ off with more licenses!

Read MoreLouis H What frustrates me is that the folks at BDJ have ALWAYS made good on any problems that develop during a deal. It might take more than a day sometimes to get the kinks worked out, but they ALWAYS get things corrected. They are honest business folks, and they provide an excellent service.

I, for one, am tired of the tendency for people to jump to negative conclusions - and I have done that myself in the past, so I include myself in that group I am tired of.

Asking for all of us humans to simply not make assumptions might be hoping for too much based on our species collective past, so my request is that instead of assuming the worst, might we all start out assuming that BDJ WILL correct any problems that arise during a deal and make good on it? If they don't, which is highly unlikely based on their previous history, then one can always shift over into negative mode.

P.S. I agree with Michael on the difference between BDJ and GOTD. When BDJ has a giveaway, it is a full license giveaway. No different than if you actually purchased the program. That is NOT how it works at GOTD. And that is not meant to be a slam on GOTD. I like both apples and oranges. I try not to compare them against each other, however.

Read MoreZoner Software Hello all,

@Emil Kucera: Yes, you will. The different-numbered versions are independent.

@Jack Hardy, @Thomas Magnum, @Rob Streetman, @S R and any others I missed: Problems with the installer are generally the result of an incomplete or otherwise corrupted download of the installer, so the way to go here is to download and install again.

@Peter Rendler: Use for commercial purposes is fine.

@Randy Martin: The Home Edition can certainly do editing in general, but yes, there are some editing functions that are PRO-only. Keeping your old PRO edition like you mention definitely has merit.

@Peter C1: Good catch. Zoner, Inc. did indeed produce a series of vector graphics software named Zoner Draw, and Zoner Draw 3 once came out in a CD Labeling edition. It should actually still work on Windows XP, but doesn't work properly on Vista. (It's also about 15 years old, so...) Zoner Draw isn't developed anymore, so that we can focus strictly on Zoner Photo Studio, but we were still publishing it as late as the 2000's.

Anyone I missed: it's not on purpose, there was just a lot of questions at once! Just remind me of your missed query and I'll answer you.

Half the time, about 52MB downloads and it stops. The 4 times that the entire file seemed to download, I still got the "file corrupt" message that a lot of other people are getting when I tried to run it.

That's enough for me. Thanks anyway.

chris hicks I've had the same experience except my download goes to 60.3MB while it shows as 60.4MB as complete. I've tried Firefox, IE10, Opera and Chrome on 2 separate PCs and the most I get is that 60.3MB which fails to install. In Opera it shows that it's fine until it hits the last 1000 bytes. Once there it stalls and fails.

Rex I downloaded the Zoner Photo Studio 2x and both times received message that "Setup files are corrupted, please download new copy". Anyone else having this problem. Can I get a new DL?

Thanks in advance.

Read MoreGOTD User Someone has badly broken download server configuration.

In current state:
- There is no possibility to download big files in more then one piece.
- There is no possibility to resume download.
- Server closes connection after arbitrarily set short timeout, no matter the download is finished or not.

Today the timeout is set to 2 minutes so it's impossible to finish
60+ MB download using connection slower than 4 Mbps.

Olen O'Neil Thank you, Michael Johnsson, for your reply. I did not realize that with bitsdujour gave you more than one day to install and register the software they give away. I am happy to know this, as it removes that stress. Also, I have downloaded so many great programs from here. Please keep up the good work that you do!

Scott Youngman Folks, you don't need a new license to download the file again. Just wait until the server is fixed, download from Zoner's website, install, and use the license number you have been given to register or "unlock" it as the Home version. And you can use the same license number if you ever need to reinstall it at any time in the future.

Rex Scott Youngman is correct. Follow his instructions or go to another site (such as CNET) and download your copy from them. The activation code works. Thanks, Scott!

chris hicks Scott, did that process work for you? I just tried that and my license was rejected.

Also, now when trying to download using the link in the email for this it downloads version 14 so that's out as well.

Read MoreScott Youngman @ chris hicks: I successfully installed the program and activated my license code today -- one day after the extended offer expired. It's not a time-limited license, it's the same as if I had bought it directly from Zoner.

I think your difficulty may be with the link in the email from BdJ. When I used it early on the first day of the offer, it downloaded a file named zps15_en.exe. Today I tried the SAME link from the SAME email and it downloaded zps14_en.exe instead. So something has gone wrong with that link.

I suggest you download the file directly from the link at Zoner's web site (it actually gets it from CNET). I tested that just now; it is version 15 and installs correctly. Your license should work (the file is zps15_en_free.exe but your license will activate the Home edition).

EDIT: You can get zps15_en.exe directly from Zoner (not CNET) here: http://www.zoner.com/en/download

chris stevens This promo got really messed up. I subscribed to the first one. It ran out of registration keys. I downloaded the trial and subscribed again to be notified when it was available. Apparently it was extended for a second day but I was not notified and therefore did not get a registration key. I am a frequent visitor and have never experienced this confusion before. Perhaps someone would consider emailing me a key.

Scott Youngman @ chris stevens: That's really disappointing. I can't speak for BdJ, but I suspect that resubscribing put you on the mailing list for the _next_ promotion sometime in the future. Extension of a current promotion for an additional day is apparently not considered a "new" promotion, hence does not generate a new email notice. So I think the lesson for all of us is, if we miss a promotion, keep watching it the next day in case it gets extended.

Zoner Software Hello Chris,

Please write zoner.com's "support@" address and mention you spoke with me and we will get you sorted out, since you certainly did everything right on your end and should be set up with a valid code.
