What is the difference between a RAM disk and a RAM folder?

Since both are using RAM how is it that one can be 20x faster?

How fast is GiMiSpace compared to a solid state disk (SSD)?

Jorrit IJpenberg Hi Stephen, There are many differences between RAM disks and RAM folder. Like the name already indicated, it doesn't create a new disk, it converts a folder on your existing disk into a folder that is stored in RAM. Also it doesn't use a driver, it uses user mode hooking which avoids having to go through kernel mode which saves a lot of time when doing a lot of random access reads/writes. This is the reason why these reads/writes can be up to 20x faster then ramdisks who have to go through kernel mode.
Since RAM disks are already much faster than SSD's this means that RAM Folder is even more faster than SSD's. How much depends on your specific system.

Jorrit IJpenberg Hi Stephen, there are some programs that go very heavy on disk access like for example some audio/video editors use the disk as virtual memory while not using much of the RAM at all, by converting their temporary storage folders to RAM folders you can force them to use the RAM instead of the disk.
Certain games can also benefit by either copying their files to a RAM folder or select their folders as being cached.
It is always important to understand if these files are temporary, meaning the program still works after deleting the files or if they never should be deleted, in that case you select the caching option for that specific folder.
