A word of advice. If you create a document with a word processor and then save it as a pdf, you would be well advised to make changes by going back to the word processor version and making the changes there and then resaving it as a pdf. The changes will be easier and faster to make and your overall document will have a consistent format.

What are the limitations of this program?

1. If the replaced word or phrase has the same number of characters as the new word or phrase, the program seems to work fine.

2. If there is a difference in the number of characters, then the line will be shortened or lengthened by that difference. That will immediately be noticeable if the page has justified text. If the difference is substantial, then it will be noticeable also on unjustified text. If the new word or phrase has a lot more characters, then the end of line will disappear off the page.

3. A note in the "Help" file suggests there are some anomalies that can occur, for which you can make an adjustment in the "settings" file,. If you have an important document, then you should check for such anomalies after any use of the program.

4. The program has a function that permits you to limit the pages of the document on which the changes are to be made. I had a 250 page document, and told the program to limit replacement to the first 10 pages. The program ignored that function and kept on through the rest of the document.

5. The program has several functions that are not adequately advised in the instructions or not described at all. See: Auto-fix page size, Compatible mode and High Quality Mode.

For the time being, I will pass on this program, since the correcting capabilities of my word processor and of Acrobat and PDF Annotator fit my editing needs, I suggest that the developer better fine tune the capabilities of the program.

I would really like to see someone come up with a program that can individually and in bulk easily modify the metadata of a pdf and a way to search the meta data of a bunch of pdfs. The idea would be able to sort and find batches of pdfs according to key words in their metadata.

John Cook PDF Replacer PRO can replace words on text PDFs. If your PDFs are scanned files, you may need a tool like PDF Eraser to make changes.
