What are people saying about TrackOFF Privacy Software

Peter Laszlo This is presumably the "Lite" version.
The "Elite" version appears to be a lot more useful, all be it USD 59 on their website.
Any suggestions??

You're correct that we're offering TrackOFF Basic today. TrackOFF Basic offers the same privacy protection as TrackOFF Elite with the exception of VPN-encrypted browsing. Due to costs associated with maintaining a VPN, we were unable to offer it today.

Please contact us at infotrackoff.com if you have any more questions about TrackOFF Elite.

Thanks!

I think what this product intends to do is all and good, but being so relatively new, there has been some discussions on whether to trust what this product does.

I tried the program on a previous offering, but ran into a warning from Microsoft, and thus decided to not continue with the install. Since that point, I have been researching the program to learn more about what others have concerns about.

I have a couple questions:

1) The description text shown here today on Bitsdujour states "private browsing with just one click" but on your website, it states "Anonymous browsing with one-click (Elite plan only)." Can you confirm that what is offered is not what is claimed in the description text shown here today?

2) If the user has a WiFi connection, your program starts to install a PRIVATE WiFi Adapter, but Microsoft warns that ... the installation of the software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of the operating system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that the user stop the installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows logo testing.

This means that this program intends to take over the driver for the hardware. Due to the wide range of hardware device driver differences, this is difficult to guarantee success or no problems in the future. From my many years of experience on many different computers, these types of installs almost guarantee there will be Blue Screens of Death. While I might bypass the warning for a test, I cannot accept the risk on a computer that is intended on being used for serious work.

Supposedly, the major function of this program is to manipulate or change the computer fingerprint in order that tracking websites do not see the computer as the same. Also, if this program is intended to be "most effective/least intrusive on user experience" why does the program have this serious device driver intercept need?

Thanking you in advance;

Read MoreAlexander Seher Hi Gary,

Great questions. I'll do my best to address them.

1) Anonymous browsing is just a high level term we use to refer to use of our VPN product. TrackOFF Basic allows you to browsing protected from tracking scripts while TrackOFF Elite goes further, encrypting all your internet traffic using our VPN, making you "anonymous".

2) Installation of a Virtual Ethernet Adapter (Private Wifi Adapter) is necessary to achieve reliable and secure VPN functionality. It will only be engaged when the VPN service is activated in TrackOFF, otherwise your PC use its original settings.

This is common practice for VPN products, ensuring that network communications will continue as normal, only through our secure VPN tunnel.

We offer the VPN component as part of our Elite offering, for users who want an added layer of security by having all their traffic encrypted and funneled through a secure endpoint, masking their location and IP address. With that said, it is not required, and TrackOFF without VPN enabled will provide the best privacy protection available today, without any degradation to the browsing experience.

Thanks for your reply.

Based on your statement that the anonymous browsing pertains to use of the VPN product," which is available in the Elite edition only, "offers private browsing with just one click" is not in the Basic version, and therefore should not be in the description above. Interpreting "just one click" (to justify the statement) to mean anything else, would make it too confusing with the way the Elite edition uses the "just one click" quote.

Also, the PRIVATE WiFi adapter is also used only in the Elite edition, but is installed in the Basic edition, even though it is not required. That is an unfortunate install decision as it is the one thing that prevented me from testing your product. You blocked yourself when you didn't even need to.

VPNs can degrade the browsing experience, and if the Basic edition does not use the VPN, then I agree that the browsing experience would not be degraded. Therefore, it does not seem logical to install anything in the Basic edition that is not needed, especially if it is something a user may reject. If you remove those obstacles, I think you will have a product that could be marketed in a much better fashion. At that point, I would be more interested.

Also, as one other user asked about offering the Elite edition, and the response pertaining to costs of maintaining a VPN is certainly justified, there was another part of the Elite edition offer in that a user can have a license for multiple computers. I see no reason why you should not also offer a multiple license for the Basic edition. Will you consider that as well?

Read MoreAlexander Seher Hi Gary,

"Private browsing with just one click" refers to the Private Search feature we've included in our application. This feature allows users to utilize DuckDuckGo, a search engine that does not track user queries. Apologies for any confusion.

Both Basic and Elite can be used on up to 3 computers, and I believe this was included under the fine print section of this page description.

I will pass along your feedback to our product team. If you'd like to share your thoughts further, I encourage you to contact us directly at infotrackoff.com.
