World of Warcraft Item Upgrades Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats. Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests Each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount. Item Level When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. The value is the sum of all its leveled up perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded. It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It also serves as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). item upgrader can view their average level of item on their character sheet. The level of an item can help players evaluate the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller. The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the full item description, including its ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat. There are several theories about how the calculation of the item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula that calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is typically very close to Blizzards actual level of the item. It's not the only factor that affects the ilvl of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance, it could add a level to the item's haste or crit score. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances. item upgrading can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stat modifications of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then increased by a player's skill. Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher costs. Another way to change the stats on an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can be used to give the item extra damage, add a special ability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing the duration of cooldowns), or make the item unique by giving an additional name to the item. All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as other options for rerolling. In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's an item that is unique or a God roll from a boss in a raid. This is another aspect that can be modified by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the interface for comparing items would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time. Item Luck The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the likelihood of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of those properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is especially useful in the early game, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains. Luck can also increase the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each new level of item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the luck of the item to 140. Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by five percent. These items can be purchased at the store, or they can be made using the correct ingredients. Item Failure Item upgrades are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are cash shop items which allow players to increase their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful. When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading the item and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%.. The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the Luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%. Note that item upgrades are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects can be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
