Changing Conservatory Door Handles

Switching your handles for your conservatory doors is a simple job that the majority of people will be at ease doing. It is crucial to determine whether your existing handles are spring-loaded or not.

We stock a wide range of replacement handles for all major uPVC double-glazing manufacturers such as Hoppe Mila Avocet and the Fab n'Fix. You need to take two crucial dimensions to select the correct handle. These are the distance between the screw fixing centres and the central point of the keyhole (also known as PZ centres).

Lever/lever

If you're planning to install new uPVC doors into your conservatory, you might want to change the handle design. Not only does the look of your handles contribute to the look of your home, but they also provide the security you need. It's relatively simple to replace the door handle. The majority of homeowners can replace their handles in less than five minutes.

Before Conservatory Repair begin this process, it is important to make sure that the door is closed and secure to allow you to work in a safe manner. The next step is to take off the handle and the cylinder lock. Once removed you will need to carefully mark the the screw holes on the back plate. This will help you find the exact position to screw the handle replacement into the hole. Once you've recorded the measurements you can use them to place an order for the appropriate handle.

The screws, lever and pad spindles are located inside the lock case (which is inside the door) therefore it is impossible to swap any handle with another without ensuring that they match up correctly. It is crucial to take accurate measurements when buying new handles.

You'll need to determine the PZ dimension (centre of the euro cylinder hole) and the Top Screw to Spindle distance. Then you'll need to pick the best uPVC handle for your home. We have created a handy guide to measure door handles to assist you.

Lever/lever handles are the most sought-after type of door handle. They are available in different styles and finishes. You can pick from graphite, matte black and oil-rubbed bronze handles that complement your decor. These handles are suitable for both domestic and commercial applications and are available on a wide range of uPVC door types and sizes.

If you're looking to make your uPVC door more secure, choose a handle that has a locking mechanism. This adds an additional layer of security to your home and is particularly beneficial for doors that are external. There are a number of locking options available for these types of handles, including keyed alike and dummy door locks.

Certain lever handle sets can be used on the right or left side of the door. Some aren't, and must be specifically ordered to match the orientation of your door. Before placing an order, we recommend to check the direction of any lever set. Some brands such as Schlage provide only reversible handles for standard doors.

Un-sprung

As the name suggests, these types of door handles made of upvc don't include a spring cassette in their back plate. The latches/multi-point locks use a force which returns their levers to a horizontal position after use. This is less efficient over time, causing the handles to droop.

If you are experiencing problems with the handle, the spring in the cassette is probably worn out and needs to be replaced. You can test this by removing the handle, then operating the lever. If the handles are drooping, this indicates that their spring strength has decreased. It is essential to install high-quality locks and latches on your new conservatory doors to stop this from happening.

The majority of replacement handles are sprung multipoint with the spring cassette placed in the back plate and holding the lever. They work in conjunction with a standard or multi-point latch to ensure that the door handles return to their horizontal position after use. This is a crucial feature, as it can be difficult to operate handles that aren't in the correct position if they do not return to their initial position.

There are a few handles made of upvc that still do not have the spring cassette. They will need to be fitted with heavy duty locks/latches. They are more prevalent in older door handles made of upvc that have not been updated in a long time.

Installing the handle is simple after you have picked the right type and the appropriate length for your door made of upvc. Follow the instructions provided. The screw holes should be aligned on the handle's exterior with the ones already in the euro profile cylinder. Then insert the spindle that is supplied and tighten the screws. Repeat the procedure to install the handle that is inside.

It is important to note that the cylinders included with these handles do not match the ones used in modern multi-point locks. The cylinders that come with these handle sets are smaller in diameter and will require larger bulb-shaped cylinders which are normally used on older multipoint doors. These cylinders can be purchased from your local locksmith or purchased online. They are an additional cost in comparison to the new set of upvc handles and is only needed in the event that you have older multi-point locks fitted to your double glazed doors. Cylinders are included in the majority of the upvc handle sets available since they are the most commonly used size. However, it's recommended to have spare cylinders on hand in case of loss or breakage. This will spare you the hassle and cost of ordering an entire replacement set of handles in the future. You can also use the same tool to repair your upvc handles if the spring in the handle cassette wears out or breaks. This can occur when the door handle is used with excessive force, particularly by elderly or children.
