Top Rated Robot Vacuums

A robot vacuum is able to keep floors clean enough to decrease the frequency you have to manually vacuum. Find one that has good navigation, can sweep corners and stairs and has a huge dust bin that needs emptying only once in a while.

There are models that mop and charge themselves this is an option essential for families with pets or children. The top performers in our tests have great obstacles to avoid.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are both identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ an excellent option for those who want an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it fills up.

Both robots are good at removing surface dirt on floors and carpets and can move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to assist the i3+ to navigate and clean up efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we tested the i3+ doesn't have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can get stuck on things like power cords or socks, and may have issues traversing transitions across surfaces, such as from hardwood to carpet.

iRobot recommends that you tidy the area around the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes getting rid of any toys or other items it might come across. Also, keep the filters and dust bin clear to avoid getting blocked. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is empty, it returns to its docking station and automatically empties its trash into the station's dust bin, and then continues cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery lasts for approximately an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to recharge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating and -- the most important feature of all -- it has self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning tasks and direct your robot by voice or via the app.

In our testing the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it removed large chunks of pet hair from all surfaces kinds, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces recurring costs.

We were also awestruck by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to begin, stop, or pause cleaning sessions as well as move around the room and vacuum a particular area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. We were able, once connected, to give voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums that are cordless and are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's powerful enough to replace a traditional stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense Lithium-ion battery that produces power without fading for 60 minutes. The sophisticated whole-machine filter system is able to trap allergens and then releases cleaner air into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and pick up large crumbs or fine dust. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It quickly converts from floor vac to handheld vacuum, and then back to floor.

This model also has docks that charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and the clip for a wand. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons models, which take a long time to charge and are a pain to store.

The main drawback of the V10 is its short running time. Its marketing claims that it can provide up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests show. This is a typical and not a remarkable time for an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. It's enough time to sweep a typical-sized home, but not enough to reach every area. (A second pass is usually sufficient). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is significantly better on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

The 694 is a basic robot vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to spend on a robot. robot vacuum cleaner cheap of sucking up most types of debris and sizes during our tests, and it frequently goes over the same areas several times to give a thorough clean. The flat front of the unit allows it to reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice addition.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, such as our top picks, the i3+EVO and j7+ Series. It may get stuck on phone cords or furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways in that it has fewer components that require regular maintenance, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, incurs lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and does a better job maneuvering itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges quicker.

The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 for most purposes, because it has a longer battery life, has the ability to alter its suction power mode manually and has physical boundary strips, and can be controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a larger motor, and can perform better on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a household name in home electronics. It's not surprising that they are also among the top producers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology for navigation and obstacles avoidance.

The app gives you plenty of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization docking frequency settings and more. It's easy to understand and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.

In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors, and also handled dog hair (on carpet) quite well, cleaning up 86 percent of it. It didn't do very well in avoiding taller items like socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's priced higher than other models that we tested, and this could be a problem for some shoppers.

The smart vacuum has an onboard camera that can be accessed through the app, and you can also create a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature allows you to monitor your pets or children while you're away. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned for a quick, painless clean-up. The Jet Bot AI+ also has a clean station that's self-emptying and helps keep the robot's trash bin clean and maximizes suction power for each cleaning.

6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum

Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. The robots have an extra-wide cleaning path, and dust bins that are 2X bigger than the competitors. This allows them to clean the area for a longer period of time. They also include two side sweepers that can be used to clean around corners and edges. The POWERSERIES Extreme model also includes AutoSense technology, which senses whether it's picking up dirt or debris on the surface and then automatically adjusts the power level. The vacuum also has an app that allows users to see a virtual map, control functions, and set schedules. You can also track the vacuum's status and send it to the dock for charging with the touch of a single button. The app lets you customize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum so that you can discern where it is focusing or if it's stuck.

The app also makes it easy to steer the robot manually in the event of need. My living room rug, for example is darkly colored which could cause a problem for other robots. However, the HRV 425BL kept moving across the border, without registering it as an incline. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
