Repair Leaking Gutters With Replacement Rubber Gutter Seals

Gutter sealant is used to repair damaged sections in a gutter system. Leaking gutter seams, regardless of whether caused by the branch of a tree, a ladder that is leaned too far or another reason, can cause damage to the roof and damage to the house.

UniBond's gutter and roof sealant creates watertight seals at the corners of gutters, seams, and end caps. It's also rain-ready within 30 minutes after application, providing rapid protection against leaky gutters.

Downspouts

Gutters are the main method to divert water away from your home or building, preventing foundation issues and leaks. But gutter systems aren't complete without downspouts, which are the extensions that drain rainwater out of the gutters and direct it away from your home or building. Downspouts are shaped like pipes that are installed along the sides of gutters, redirecting their flow and reducing the chance of clogging or other problems.

You can purchase downspout sections with different lengths based on the amount of rainfall you receive in a typical year. They are also available in various materials including copper, vinyl to galvanized steel. Each type of downspout has its own benefits and drawbacks. For example, aluminum downspouts are cost-effective, lightweight, and can be bent to fit the shape of your home. They're also resistant to dents, which helps them to withstand the hot Texas summers.

To install your new downspout, begin by measuring the distance between the gutter and where you want it to end. A level is easier to use than a ladder, or a tape measure. After you've determined the length you require you draw the measurement on the downspout flange with a marker or a pencil. Cut the downspout with a hacksaw, tin snips or other tools to the size you require. Once the downspout is cut to size Crimp the edges using a specially designed downspout crimper, or a pair of needle-nose pliers.

Once the downspout is crimped, attach it to your gutter with sheet metal screws. Then, you can attach an elbow to the top of the downspout, and then a second elbow beneath it to form a slight S-shaped curve. Attach a gutter bracket to the exterior of your house wall just below the first elbow for the downspout and another one halfway down the downspout, and at the bottom, just above the final downspout elbow.

If your downspouts have started to loosen from the gutters it is usually due to the outlet tubes that connect the downspouts and the gutters have broken or missing. The outlet tubes comprise cylinders attached to the gutter using four pop rivets or screws. The outlets can be purchased at any hardware store, or online.

End Caps

The sealing of gutter end caps as well as downspout outlets is necessary to stop leakage. Leaky gutters are often an indication that the sealant beneath has deteriorated.
