The Benefits and Drawbacks of a 3 Wheeled Pushchair

A three-wheeled pushchair is perfect if you walk regularly on uneven terrain or jog. They are the best choice if you need a pushchair that can tackle any terrain, from busy streets to forest tracks.

To make your ride more maneuverable, look for a model that has locking or swivelling front wheels. The rear and front wheels that are bigger offer the most comfortable ride on different surfaces.

Manoeuvrability

A 3 wheel pushchair is a fantastic choice for those who want to be able to maneuver easily. The wheels are set close to each other, allowing the chassis to move and turn more easily than a traditional four wheel pushchair, making them perfect for busy streets and shops. Some models even have a pair of front wheels that can be locked and swivelled to provide extra manoeuvrability when needed. The Roma Atlas, for example is equipped with two wheels that are positioned closely together at the front, and an ingenious lock that swivels to give the flexibility of a 3-wheeler with added stability.

Many of our most popular 3 wheelers are able to be converted from pram, stroller or toddler seat and car-seat carrier as your child grows. This is ideal when you're planning to travel with your family or on frequent trips to the shops. One such example is the Baby Jogger Nipper pushchair that includes Hauck's XL air wheel with a 360-swivel lockable front wheel and an adjustable suspension system that makes it suitable for all terrains including off-road and jogging when your child is old enough to join in with you!

Another good choice is the ickle Bubba Nipper, a pushchair that is all-terrain with excellent suspension and large puncture-proof tyres, which make it suitable for off-road adventures and smooth city pavements. It is suitable for use from birth (in the reversible seat unit or with a compatible carrycot) and has a handy one-handed instant fold for boot storage and airport travel.

It is crucial to select the right wheels for a pushchair based on the location it will be used the most. Moulded wheels are ideal for the city, but not so on rougher terrain. If you intend to take your pushchair off roads, you should consider pneumatic tyres. They can withstand rough terrain.

If you're looking for a pushchair designed to be used in both rural and urban settings, then check out our top-rated Bugaboo Fox 5 All Terrain pushchair. It comes with all the suspension and large wheels you'd expect from an all-terrain pushchair, but it's also a city pushchair that's extremely light and has the option of locking the front wheel.

Stability

There are many options to look for that will increase the stability of your buggy. Certain models have a swiveling front wheel that is locked to give extra stability on uneven terrain. This can be particularly useful for those who will be using your pushchair off-road, or for running, as it gives you the confidence to take any surface easily.

Another excellent stability feature is suspension - this makes your buggy more comfortable to ride in for both baby and parents especially on uneven terrain. Some brands even allow you to swap out tyres with different sizes so that you can tailor the performance of your pushchair according to the type of terrain you'll be taking it on.

Consider purchasing a 3-wheeled pushchair that has air-filled tires If you are looking for an infant stroller that can take on any terrain. They will give you a more comfortable ride on bumps and are less susceptible to punctures than solid wheels. These wheels will permit you to ride your buggy on non-paved surfaces and can be used on a variety of surfaces that include grass or sand, as well as mud.

All-terrain strollers tend to be bigger than standard strollers however there are some fantastic options that do not compromise on maneuverability or stability. One of our favourites is the UPPAbaby Ridge that comes with numerous impressive features that allow it to be used for off-road and running (once your child is old enough). These include large, foam-filled, never-flat tyres and adjustable suspension as well as a quick one-handed fold.

The Bugaboo Fox 5 is another excellent stroller that is all-terrain. It's got similar features as the UPPAbaby and comes with an excellent suspension, big puncture proof tires, and a single hand fold. It is compatible with a variety of car seats, and can also accommodate a carrycot. It's a little heavier than some of the other 3-wheelers, but is a great choice for parents who want to use their pushchair on any terrain.

Weight

The drawback of 3 wheeled strollers is that they are heavy, especially if you have to navigate bumpy terrain or kerbs. The bigger rear wheels on a 3-wheeler also make up a higher overall weight than 4 wheelers which means you may need more strength to lift them, particularly when folding.

If you require an infant stroller that can withstand rough terrain and tarmac that is rocky it might be worth considering. These typically come with special features, such as strong suspensions and big puncture-proof tyres. More and more, manufacturers are creating all-terrain pushchairs using foam or gel-filled tyres that are designed not to go flat and therefore don't need inflating.

UPPAbaby’s Ridge stroller is all-terrain and has many features that are parent-friendly and can help you navigate a variety of terrains easily. It includes the ability to lock the front wheel, an easy and easy one-handed fold the large basket and an adjustable handlebar. MFM reviewer Becky said that the Ridge is "very ideal for woodland walks and gravel roads as well as market town cobbles".

Another brand that offers an all-terrain pushchair range is iCandy. The Core, their latest all-terrain pushchair, is ideal for babies from birth. It can be fitted to the car seat or carrycot. The iCandy Core is packed with features that make it a great, all-terrain stroller. These include large foam-filled tyres that don't flatten, and a fantastic suspension. The Core is a bit heavier than other pushchairs for all-terrain use, but it's lightweight enough to maneuver on more rough terrain.

Folding

If you're in search of a pushchair that will take the roughest of terrain, you might think about an all-terrain model. This type of pushchair has large wheels on both the rear and front to aid in navigating bumpy off-road terrain. They'll typically have more robust suspension and larger puncture resistant tyres to ensure they don't get blocked by sticks, grass or mud.

A good example of this kind of pushchair is the Mountain Buggy Ridge. It's an all-terrain model with a myriad of amazing features including smooth suspension, a spacious basket, one-handed steering and a fast one-handed fold. It is also compatible with a car seat and carrycot (with adaptors), so it can be used in as early as 6 months.

Other all-terrain pushchairs include Bugaboo Fox 5, which is a 3-wheeler that has some truly impressive off-road features. It has a massive 10kg basket, which can be folded in just one hand. The handlebar can also be adjusted by one hand. It also has the option of locking the front wheel as well as foam-filled, never-flat tyres so you don't have to worry about punctures on rough terrain.
