What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib (also known as a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small baby crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your infant to sleep safely next to you. This is a safe form of co-sleeping and doesn't increase the risk of SIDS like bedsharing. It also helps you bond with the new baby.

The cots come with a side which can be adjusted so that you can reach your baby easily at night to soothe and feed them. This is especially useful for mothers who are recovering from the c-section. Many are portable or foldable so you can use them to travel or as an interim solution for infants who aren't quite ready to be able to transition to a larger crib.

Look for a crib with an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an appropriate cover to shield your baby from stains. You should also buy baby-safe items such as a blanket and cuddly toys.

Contrary to some cribs that are placed on the bed, which can be a challenge to clean due to their endless stream of dribble and snot and snot, the Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir has a wipe-clean liner and fabric that can be removed for machine-washing. It also has an upper bar that can be easily lowered to accommodate feedings at night without having to mess with zips.

Anna discovered that the CoZee could provide a safe, comfortable sleeping space for her baby. It's also quite light at 11kg and comes with a carrying case so you can carry it away on holidays or if you're moving home. The only things you'll require are a waterproof cover and a safety strap for co-sleeping. The instructions and images are simple to follow when you first open the box.

The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bedside bassinet that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant while they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards, and moved through three different slide positions, to be placed beside the bed of the parent or in the corner to ensure that the infant is always at hand. The mesh siding allows air to flow through, and allows you to quickly see your baby. And you can store more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket under.

The Iora is a bedside crib that is smaller and folds flat. It also comes with a travel case to allow it to be carried anywhere. It was easy to move from room to room, and our mum testers believed it was the perfect size for a bedside crib. The large storage basket is perfect for storing extra bedding or nappies.

This is a great option for parents who want to co-sleep, but don't wish to share their beds or whose partners may have mobility issues, like arthritis or back issues. Our mom testers loved that they could easily access their child in the Iora and that it came with an optional reflux incline that helped alleviate gas.

Our mums appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. These include placing the baby in the Moses basket or crib on its own without blankets, toys and pillows. bedside cosleeper say that the mattress is firm and comfortable for babies and is easy to find sheets for. It isn't as light as other smaller bedside cribs however it is a good choice if you are looking for something lighter and easier to move around, look at other options in our list.
