The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas and doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for bidet and washlet toilet seats, in contrast to its "base" markets in Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure that the next generation could read the words. Many words were replaced by foreign words. For example dui, which was Bengali for verandah was being used.

Origins

The early history of Toto which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's economic growth. In the first half of its existence, the company produced products to meet the demand for new, modern urban housing. To achieve this, it employed the first tunnel kiln in the nation that produced ceramics in continuous flow. It also pioneered automation for production control, which allows for greater efficiency and a more consistent production.

?????? ?? began expanding its operations overseas in the latter part of the 1980s to profit from new markets and sales opportunities. The company established the Cera Trading Company to import and sell other manufacturers' products in order to complement its own range of sanitary earthenwares and plumbing fittings. This strategy boosted sales and increased the company's market share.

In the 1990s, Toto began to focus on research and development for water-related appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve the needs of its customers and boost profits. The company implemented a just-in-time approach to managing its supply chain and used the same method in its sales strategy. This led to a higher level customer satisfaction.

Toto continued to innovate toilet technology. The latest toilet, for instance, has an extremely powerful tornado flush that is more eco friendly than traditional toilets. Toto uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and has a green buying policy. Apart from toilets, Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs and hand dryers that are more efficient in terms of energy consumption than standard models.

The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It hosts exhibits on the most iconic products of Toto and their evolution, the group companies (all of which are made of ceramics) as well as the history of plumbing and even bath units. In an additional gallery, you can see Toto products that are sold across the world. The museum also has a bathroom that includes a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations.

Before forming Toto, members of the band did sessions for a variety of musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich and guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather as well as drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also performed on albums by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia one would think that the group would be prog queens and kings however, it's actually a fairly straightforward rock group. The band started out as a quartet, and they released two albums - 1979's self titled debut, and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. Although the band have a variety of musical backgrounds their biggest hit was in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a massive blockbuster, but it was not without its difficulties. Record companies put the band on the position with the order "give us a hit record or we'll drop you" and the pressure was on them to give it. Luckily for Toto, they did and they did it with the assistance of the smash single "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is a result of their previous experience in the music industry, as the band members had been session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their sonic signature has since become the standard for pop music from the 1980s, and has influenced many modern artists.

The album starts out hard with songs such as Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to create great AOR tunes that slowly creep into your head. However, the album also includes some more mellow, jazzy tracks, like The Little Things and Chinatown. And the album ends with Great Expectations, a song that combines folk with distortion AOR and should sound totally wrong, but is incredibly effective.


After Toto IV, the band's fortunes began to decline. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career, and the band was through several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Despite the chaos, Toto forged ahead and released Isolation that was not as successful as IV. However, the band managed to release another chart-topping album in 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.

Tours

The band has performed around the world to a global crowd of millions, with sold-out shows across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia and New Zealand. The band has a vast repertoire, and its catalog has been played more than one billion times via streaming services all over the globe. The band's iconic music has inspired generations of fans.

Steve Lukather has forged a vibrant, intimate friendship with Joe Williams that is flourishing professionally around the world. In 2018 the duo celebrated their 40th anniversary of Tours Around the Sun with a massively successful tour across the globe. The album with the same name was ranked #5 on Billboard 200. The new tour of the band includes their best hits and rarely played live deep cuts, along with some of the songs from Lukather and Williams the catalogs of their respective albums.

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an ode to the traditional sextet style, and an even more consistent and powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. The more edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the growth of the band. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. David Paich's keyboard skills were as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on previous efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the group recorded a live show in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set called Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. A new studio album was released a few months later, and the group embarked on an extensive world tour to promote the album. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began looking through old tapes and demos to discover songs that hadn't been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a double album called Then and Now. It was the first album by the band not to include one single track with the word "A" in its title. It also included one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis, which affected his singing abilities. In addition, Hungate returned to Nashville as a drummer, and Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.

Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia, met in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the band could be revived. This lineup, with the exception of Howe (who was a member of Yes at the time) was later referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also had a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
