Certain models also need to be calibrated to be able to recognize and manage different kinds of flooring. The iRobot OS software that runs your smart cleaner, utilizes sensors to detect floor plans. It then creates digital maps of every room and designs efficient cleaning routes. You can view these maps and modify them using your iRobot application, including no-go zones as well as virtual barriers and other options to fit your specific home layout.

You can also customize the cleaning methods that your robot uses by choosing the type of vacuum or mops based on your preferences and the dimensions of each room. Some models can do both tasks simultaneously and give you the best of both worlds in one machine. Some models are able to alter the water levels based on the flooring type that is used, putting more pressure on tiles and less pressure to hardwood floors.

A lot of robovacs employ advanced navigation systems such as laser distance sensors that scan the floor and create an electronic map of every room. This lets them avoid obstacles and ensure full coverage of the space. Some models allow you to review and edit these maps via the iRobot app by setting no-go and other virtual barriers to prevent scrapes and bumps that happen accidentally.

You can create a zoned schedule that will tailor the robot's routes for each area of the home, removing the need to manually move the robot. When the battery is depleted the robot will return to its charging station and begin where it left off.
