The Silver Cross Slumber Bedside Crib Travel Cot

Made for divan beds this bedside crib is easy to build. The instructions can be a bit tricky to follow, especially since there's a sequence in which the pieces need to be inserted, but MFM testers found it very easy once they were familiar with it.

Easy to put together

Silver Cross Slumber is an excellent travel cot. It's easy to set up and use. It's designed to be used as a crib for your bed. This lets you keep your baby close to you all night long and feed them without getting out of bed. It's also lightweight and compact which makes it ideal for travelling.


The crib is simple to build using poles which you bend to position and a sheet that is popped over the mattress. Once it's set it's time to slide your baby in. Emily mom test subject, says it took her two attempts to master the assembly, but once she was able to master it, the procedure was easy. Her daughter was able to sleep well in it as well.

It comes with a newborn bassinet and foldable mattress so it's suitable for babies from the time of birth. It comes with a side zip that allows you to lay next to your baby and watch them sleep. Then, roll them into the crib for safety, and then zip it back up. This is a great solution if you're used to co-sleeping and would like to continue this for as long as you can.

The crib can be folded down and stored in a bag once you are ready to pack it. This is a great idea for travelling. It's also a good option for those who are planning on moving or have guests staying at your home for a period of time.

MFM mom home tester Jasmine loved the way the bedside crib was in her bedroom and how well it held up to daily use. She also praised the size of the crib, noting that it was bigger than the size of a Moses' basket but not too large. She was able to find bedding for and the mattress was of good quality, unlike some she's encountered that feel thin or thin.

It's important to keep in mind that a bedside crib isn't an alternative to a baby sleeping bag or swaddle in the sense that it doesn't guarantee an uninvolved sleep. It's crucial to follow the Back To Sleep campaign guidelines that state that your baby should rest on their backs in the crib or cot. Easy to clean

Easy to store

The crib is easy to clean and put away. The sides fold in and the legs fold down into a small, flat bag that can easily fit into your car boot or suitcase, making it ideal for weekend trips, daytime breaks, or the occasional stay with friends and family. The material is durable and machine washable, and the mattress feels comfortable to the touch. The mattress is a little deeper than most and our mother test participant Kathryn had to bend to pick her toddler up to go to bed.

It's also a bit heavier than some of the other travel cots we've tried, but it's very lightweight and compact. It's easy to set up, and the four mesh sides are great for visibility and airflow. It also features a handy changing station, nightlight and music function, although our mum test participant Nicola found that her son Olly didn't particularly like the additional features, and she found them to make her work more difficult in the dark.

Apart from the additional accessories the cot is simple and basic in design, yet it's one of the best on the market for its weight and ease of use. It is suitable from birth and easily converts into a toddler's crib and playpen. One side opens to allow more accessibility. It comes with a bag which makes it easy to transport and store when it is not in use.

The majority (but not all) airlines allow passengers to take a crib with a portable bed for free and it's worth taking into consideration your needs when browsing choices. Some of the smaller travel cots can be folded to be so compact that they even be packed into a suitcase which is ideal for those who travel by air. Some are bigger and will have to be transported in checked luggage So, be sure to read the rules and regulations prior to purchasing a travel crib. It's also important to consider the frequency you'll use the travel cot in order to determine its weight, size and function.
