The course includes eight hours of classroom instruction and four hours of riding a motorcycle. Participants are taught the fundamentals of motorcycling, including straight-line riding stopping, shifting, and turning. The MSF also teaches the basics of cornering, swerving, and emergency brakes. In addition, students receive tips on how to prepare and care for their bikes.

In addition to the instruction in the classroom, students also get hands-on experience in a controlled environment with instant feedback from instructors.
