A crib that is placed near your bed allows you to keep your baby close during the night, without the need to get out of bed. The breathable fabric allows you to easily see your baby and they are easy to lower when you need a 3am feed.

Some also double up as a moses basket, as well.

What is a bedside crib?

A bedside crib (also called a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a baby cot that attaches to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep comfortably next to you. It's a method of co-sleeping that is safe and doesn't increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) similar to bedsharing and can help you build a bond with your new arrival.

These cots often come with a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your newborn at night to feed and comforting. This is particularly useful for mothers who are recovering from a csection. Many are also foldable or portable, so you can bring them along on trips and use them as a temporary sleeping solution for newborns who aren't quite ready to move into a cot that is full size.

Choose a crib that has a mattress that is breathable, as well as an extra-safe cover that will shield your baby from stains. You might also want buy baby-safe accessories such as a blanket or teether.

If you're looking for a longer-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that allow you to convert them into a cot, or a toddler bed when the time comes. This will prolong their life and make the transition smoother. Some even have a removable top section that converts into a bassinet, while others can be used on a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is an excellent choice for families who are planning to frequently travel or switch between bedrooms at night. Be aware of the dimensions of your room to ensure that you fit in the crib comfortably. Many cribs come with an adjustable riser that can be used to create an inclined position for infants who suffer from reflux.

The Joie Roomie Glide

The Roomie Glide, a bedside crib manufactured by the English brand Joie is a fantastic addition to their line of high-quality products for infants. Designed to aid large bedside cot in bonding with their babies whilst sleeping side by side without sharing a bed. This co-sleeper comes with features that make bonding between parents and babies safe, easy and fun.

A smooth rocking motion can be initiated by pressing the button. This can soothe baby into sleep by a gentle rhythm that doesn't disrupt their natural sleeping pattern. This is ideal for toddlers or older babies who struggle to settle down. It can also help with digestive issues like reflux and colic.

The crib can also be fixed to the side of the bed using a strap and clip attachment. This makes the crib very sturdy and secure, allowing you to sleep soundly without worrying that your baby might roll off into the middle. The rounded cocoon shape comes with softly padded sides and two mesh windows on both sides to allow for ample air flow while keeping your baby secure.

The Tutti Bambini CoZee Air

Designed to be a safe next-to-me crib from birth to six months old, this top model has rocking bars and castors that allow for ease of movement. The airflow mattresses are deluxe and provide a comfortable sleeping surface, while the ventilation panels keep your baby cool. There are six different height settings including an incline option that can aid in reducing reflux and congestion.

Unlike some bedside cribs that can be a nightmare to clean due to their endless stream of snot and dribble The Tutti Bambini CoZeeAir comes with a wipe-clean lining and fabric that can be washed in the machine. Additionally, it comes with an upper bar that is easily lowered for feeding at night without having to fiddle with zips in the dark.

Anna discovered the CoZee to be a safe, comfortable place to sleep for her baby. She was pleased the fact that it didn't roll like some other models, so it didn't wake her at night while she was trying to comfort her baby during feeds. She also loved that the sides of the chair was lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to lift the child out to feed them at night.

The CoZee is available in oak or charcoal and is a stylish addition to any bedroom. It looks more like an expensive piece of furniture than many of the other cribs that we've tested, which can look quite utilitarian in comparison. It's also quite light at 11kg, and comes with a carrying case that allows you to take it on holiday or even when you move house. You'll need a waterproof sheet and a safety strap to sleep with your partner. The instructions and pictures are simple to follow when you first open the box.

The Maxi-Cosi lora

The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to make parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted up and down and moved to three different positions for sliding to be placed beside the parent's bed or in the corner, so that the baby is always in reach. The breathable mesh siding allows air to flow through, and lets you glance at your little one. And you can store more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket underneath.

The Iora is a bedside crib that is smaller and folds flat. It also comes with a travel case so it can be carried anywhere. Our mum testers found it easy to move from room to room, and believed that it was a suitable size for a bedside cot that was not too big or too small. The large storage basket is ideal to store extra bedding or nappies.

This is a great choice for parents who want to sleep together but don't want to share their bed. Or if one of the parents has mobility issues like back pain or arthritis. Our mum testers love the fact that they can easily access their child in the Iora and that it comes with an optional reflux incline to help with gas.

Our mothers are thrilled that the mattress adheres to NICE guidelines. These are to place an infant in a Moses basket or crib on its own, without toys, blankets, pillows etc. The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for babies and sheets are easily available. It isn't as light as the other smaller bedside cribs, though, so if you want something lighter and more portable, think about one of the other options in our list.
