French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

French-door refrigerators blend design and function. They come with stylish double doors that show the large fridge on top, and a freezer drawer beneath. These refrigerators stand out because of their distinctive features, such as through-the-door dispensers as well as higher-end ice makers.

We consulted experts such as Ladina Schopf, an interior designer and architect, as well as the founder of LS Projects, for tips on choosing the right model. We looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency, among other aspects.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, the GE Profile series is aimed at consumers who want to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchens. The refrigerator is brimming with them, from an in-the-door Keurig K-cup coffee maker to a smart water dispenser. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly and I was expecting better.

This fridge is a good choice, despite the blip. It has a large freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French door fridges. It also has a large capacity for frozen food compared to other models.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment is 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on the same as a French door refrigerator that costs this much. It has a decent-sized icemaker in the left door. However, it's not the largest one I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in each compartment to create a customized storage layout for the items you need to store. The GE PYE22PYNFS's interior design is stylish, too. The LED lighting is a nice touch, and the in-door storage bins come with a third shelf that can fold down so that you can store items that are tall. The drawers come with temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, although I found their textured plastic coatings a bit rough on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with the all the features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and offers many options for customizing. It also sends you notifications when a door is left open, when your fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.

It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill it's an option in a handful of other GE fridges that allow you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to disperse at a time. It does offer an indicator on the display of the fridge to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It is designed to look as a seamless element of your kitchen Bosch's French-door refrigerator looks seamless and is a standout. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also comes with a veggie compartment that keeps vegetables and fruits fresher longer, and two compressors for the best food preservation. The ice maker we tested was one of the most efficient and produces pyramid shaped ice using minimal water. This refrigerator is the ideal option for a single family or kitchenettes who want a built-in look and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This refrigerator was rated as the top in our Refrigerators Test for a variety of reasons. Its freezer temperatures held firm at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, never fluctuating more than a fraction an inch. This is essential to avoiding freezing burn. The refrigerator section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the initial temperature within a matter of hours, and remained at the temperature throughout our testing.

Bosch is known for its top-of-the-line appliances, so it's no surprise that this counter-depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance, with the option of connecting to your home Wi-Fi as well as Bosch's Home Connect platform. The app lets you monitor and control your fridge from your tablet or smartphone. The fridge is expensive and has great features and capabilities at a reasonable price.

It is important to know the limitations of your fridge. You may need to get inventive with tall items since the fridge has a small shelf space. The shelves are not spillproof and can easily be damaged or stained by sharp items. The trays can be easily removed from the refrigerator. However, french door fridge freezers must be cleaned regularly to prevent the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S counter-depth refrigerator is a great choice for those who require a lot of space in the space of a compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the refrigerator has an ordinary French-door design with gallon-sized door bins on each door, two rows of shelves that capture spills and a set more spacious drawers. The top shelf to the right can be folded to provide more space for taller items. You'll also find a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the best things about this refrigerator is that the Ice maker is located in the freezer, which makes it simple to move ice into the fridge to use as required. The freezer has thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers to help you to organize the place of items. It also has a huge bin that holds plenty of frozen food items as well as an additional ice storage bin.

Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a nice way to control and monitor your refrigerator, especially when you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't enhance the performance of the fridge. The fridge took a bit longer to defrost food and chill it than some others we test. This is probably due to its larger capacity.

The other issue we have with the doors of this refrigerator. The sunken handles allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However taller people have a difficult time closing them without slamming them. It would have been better if they had handles mounted on the front.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent option for those looking to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with a more efficient design. It has a capacity that is higher than average for counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter-depth refrigerator that has an ice maker, which can make it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune and isn't expensive, this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a basic refrigerator that may not be as attractive as some of its competitors however it has enough features to make a an excellent choice. Its most important feature, the adjustable temperature drawer, helps to keep food like vegetables and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge ice maker as well as a water dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which is located above the two crisper bins, is a excellent feature. The drawer allows you to divert some of the fridge's cooling power directly to this area, so you can put away food items that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted by using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also use this feature to set a general cooling setting for the entire fridge, though I've found that adjusting the generic settings tends to produce better results than specific ones.

In my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the refrigerator. Temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary much from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a solid performance, but isn't quite at the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer to get more precise measurements of your fridge's temperature.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made from gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It wards off streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tested.
