3 Wheeled Buggies

A 3-wheel buggy is great for off-roading and taking on terrains that is bumpy, like woodland tracks. They are also more easy to maneuver up and down kerbs than models with four wheels.

MadeForMums reviews editor Kath tried one of these three-wheelers with her newborn and 3 year old daughter, putting it through its paces on the asphalt and on the muddy ground. You can read her review here.

Stability

With four wheels and a centre of gravity that is balanced by the weight of your child in the seat, buggies with four wheels are generally thought to be more stable than triwheelers. Three-wheel buggies are still worthwhile to consider as they are able to take on anything from rough terrain to busy streets.

For a buggy that's easy to maneuver and won't fall over on bumpy pavements, look for one with big rear wheels and a lockable front wheel. These all-terrain buggies also have pneumatic tires, which are ideal for handling non-paved surfaces. They can be used on sandy beaches and woodland tracks.

They're also great buggies to jog with since they offer excellent stability on more rough terrain and can aid you in staying with your running companion. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs and many come with spring suspension that is built-in, so your child will enjoy a comfortable ride.

One factor that makes a 3-wheeled pushchair tricky to manoeuvre is the wide frame, which makes it more difficult to maneuver through narrow and tight doorways than a 4-wheeler. However some manufacturers have solved this issue with an innovative design that makes the wheels turn up when they are not in use, which reduces their overall size and allows you navigate through doorways without difficulty.

If yes, look for a lie-flat location and also whether the design is compatible with second seats and buggy boards (if you plan to bring an infant onboard). Find out if the buggy comes with the ability to lie flat, and if it is compatible with a second seat as well as buggy boards if you intend to bring a toddler along. Many 3-wheelers fold flat and can be positioned upright when collapsed which is useful if you have a limited space in your car boot or limited storage space at home. However, some will require you to remove the front wheel before folding if you wish to fit into even more compact space.

Manoeuvrability

Three-wheeled buggies can be more maneuverable than four-wheeled strollers. Many of them have an swivelling wheel at the front, which allows you to steer and change direction with just one hand. Some models have wheels that lock to give you stability on more rough terrain. Some models can be used with an additional buggy or seat, should you decide to grow your family.

If you're planning to take your three-wheeled bike off the paved tracks, it's worth selecting a model that has tyres with air in them (also called pneumatic tyres) which can cope with the toughest terrain. 3 wheeled pushchair will need periodic pumping, but will be far more durable than solid tyres and more likely to be puncture-proof. Choose a model that has a the ability to lock the swivelling wheel on the front to help you negotiate tricky surfaces.

When folded, three-wheelers may be heavier than buggies with four wheels because of the single wheel in front. Check to see if the model you're considering can fit into the boot of your car and is able to be sat up if necessary. Some models can be folded with just one hand, and they're freestanding when collapsed. This will save space in smaller car boots.

A quality three-wheel pushchair will handle most terrains, from busy streets to forest tracks. It's important to think about the purpose you'll use it for in the daytime. If you'll be running the school run, it ought to be able to cope with steep slopes and kerbs. If you're planning to run with it, make sure it has a swiveling'stretch front wheel' that can be locked. This will help keep the ride stable.

MFM reviewer Kath discovered her three-wheeled buggy to be able to perform well with urban and countryside walks. Kath noted that it could navigate rocky paths, cobbles and uneven pavements easily and was comfortable while running. It's also a great option for day trips since it has a lot of storage space. It comes with a large, spacious, zip-top basket that is covered and an extendable, 50+ UV hood. It can also be modified to fit babies as young as a lie-flat seat or carry cot, in addition to being compatible with most popular second-seats and buggy boards.

Fabric Sling Seat

The primary difference between a fabric seat and a modular one is the fabric sling. It is a part of the frame of the buggy, rather than being positioned on top like an adjustable chair. This makes it easier to maintain an ergonomically correct position of the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity, which is just the right height. This leads to a smoother push, a lighter curb-pop (you do not have to exert the same effort and weight to lift the buggy off the curb) and more stability and balance.

These seats also come with sling fabrics that are easy to clean and durable. They were designed specifically with applications for sling chairs in mind These fabrics are extremely durable and air-tight. They are also easy to maintain with mild soap and warm water.

If you're a jogger or are a fan of off-roading, an all terrain 3 wheeler could be more suited to your needs than a buggy with four wheels. These models tend to have a wider, more stable base and use air-filled tyres for agile smooth moving over rough terrain.

Maxi-Cosi, a name that is well-known for its car seats is now offering a brand-new 3-wheeler with the Stella to its range of products. This all-terrain vehicle has a large, spacious and impressively growing seat that can be used as a world facing or parent facing and reclines flat with an upgraded 5-point safety harness. It can be used with a car seat or carrycot starting at birth. It also has an ample shopping basket.

This luxurious 3 wheeler made for the most discerning buggy owner, is as beautiful to see as it is to use. The angular frame features stunning pewter finishes with touches of burnished aluminium. It is a real show-stopper. This is a great option for active parents. It comes with a large cushioned seat that can be positioned either in the direction of the parent or facing the world. 3 wheel buggy comes with an improved 5-point harness and a complete set of rain covers.

Modular Seat

Modular seating offers many different configurations to meet different seating requirements. 3 wheeler pushchair doesn't matter if it's a comfortable setup for watching movies or a larger configuration for entertaining guests, modular seating can be adjusted easily. A lot of modular seating systems come with removable cushions which makes it easy to clean spills or stains.

Modular Seating is available in different styles to fit with your existing decor or as an accent piece. You can select from a range of fabrics, colors, and shapes to design an elegant and modular seating design that fits your personal style. Modular seating comes with many functional features, including storage compartments hidden from view for easy storage.

3-wheel buggies are particularly good for off-road and all-terrain adventures since they offer more stability than 4-wheel strollers. The large front wheel, which is highly maneuverable, allows for smooth and quick movement. The tyres, which are usually air-filled and come with suspension, provide an excellent ride on the most difficult trails and roads. The wheels are not as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they would be on four wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.

Often, 3-wheel prams are a favorite for parents who love running and jogging with their child, as they provide excellent mobility and are much more sleek than their 4 wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL for example is a sleek and polished aluminium frame, with an easy fold that can be folded in one hand and forward and rear facing seats, while the Babyzen Yoyo has an all black frame, a carrycot that has a the ability to lie flat in full with air-filled tyres as well as 3 recline positions.

Another fantastic all-terrain choice is the incredibly lightweight, highly manoeuvrable and fashionable Mountain Buggy Sport verso. This buggy will truly protect your wallet from the future and can be used from the moment you are born with the carrycot, all the way to toddler-hood with the seat that is modular (and beyond!). All of this is done within the footprint of just one buggy.

Duet(tm) is an side-by-side buggy that's compact enough to be used in urban areas yet also innovative and controlled. It has a unique fabric seat that is set comfortably within the frame at the perfect height to distribute weight. This makes it easy for crossing of kerbs and for navigating neighborhoods and cities.
