Path of Exile Item Upgrades

The performance of many Path of Exile items can be enhanced by upgrading the performance of them. They can also provide additional damage, AD or even affixes.

Rare-grade equipment can be superior to the more modernized Common or Magic equipment due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to armor and weapon items. They improve the stats of whatever item they are connected to. Upgrades to armor are available in the world of the game and can be purchased from Blacksmiths at any bonfire. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to salvage upgrades from the items.

The amount of damage that an armored item or weapon is able to absorb is dependent on the extent of its upgrades. A piece of armor upgraded to its highest upgrade level will boost its ability to absorb damage. It is important to keep in mind that this will increase the weight of the armor, therefore it must be more heavy.

There are a variety of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each has a different effect. Certain upgrades give armor a greater number of health points while others make it lighter and more powerful. The name of the armor upgrade will indicate the type of upgrade the item can receive, as shown below.

A few upgrades are magic or a mix of technology and magic which is identified by the "Magic" or "Hybrid" entry in the table below. Some upgrades also require charges in order to be used. These are indicated as "Charges" entries in the table. These charges are constantly updated or never expire, depending on the upgrade.

Iron Ore is the cheapest way to upgrade your armor. You can locate it by exploring and looting small loot chests. Titanium is more expensive but it can be obtained from smelters located in Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Certain upgrades, such as the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied on high-level armor pieces. These upgrades can provide significant increases in stats and are worth the cost.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to the highest upgrade level will dramatically increase its defense values, but the player should be aware that putting more weight on it can drastically decrease its speed and agility. It is not recommended to upgrade armor above +9. The defensive boost gained typically isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades allow players to improve the effectiveness of certain aspects of an weapon. For instance an upgrade can enhance the damage caused by the shells of a shotgun or the accuracy of a sniper rifle. Some weapons have special enhancements to enhance their intrinsic capabilities. They include Frictionless Materials (improves stability and minimizes weapon overheating) and Kinetic Coils (increases the velocity of projectiles for greater damage).

Most weapon upgrades require three Power Dices, a different amount of Minerals and Erons, and a whetblade for applying. These can be gained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of bosses and monsters.

The process of upgrading a weapon, equipment Set piece, or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade cost that is based on a specific number of Bars. The higher the upgrade level, the higher the number of bars required to complete it. If you have multiple upgrade materials The cost of upgrading will be lower.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the method of upgrading your equipment and weapon sets was a bit different. Before, you could seek out an Upgrade Bench and pay a certain amount of Bars to upgrade your equipment or weapon to a higher quality. You could do this until your weapon or equipment reached its maximum upgrade level, at which point the upgrades would be reset.

You can still do this however, the process is high on RNG and low on agency. You should consider buying equipment that has low levels of upgrade and high base scores and stat distributions. They will also have a chance at gaining you the best tier of perks and blessings.

Most players will want to prioritize weapon upgrades for the weapons they are most likely to use to help them level up quicker. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates use to make them stronger. item upgrader , for example, should upgrade the M92F to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will increase the effectiveness of the weapon when used in conjunction with biotic specialists such as Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels can be used to improve a stat or provide secondary effects in weapons and armor. Jewelry crafting is the process of making them, where you combine the gemstone with specific reagents in a jewelry table. The higher the grade of the jewel the better the secondary effect. These reagents are available from Treasure Goblins and World Bosses in the world, or by finding Legendary Gear. You can also purchase them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The Jeweler can improve the quality of the gem in stages that range from Crude up to Royal. Depending on the tier of the gem, it will provide a different stat boost when slotted into gear, weapons and jewelry.

All kinds of jewels can be crafted at the Jeweler, with the exception of the rare and legendary jewels that require you to be at a high enough level to qualify for these. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels are able to be swapped with another identical jewel without damaging it. You are able to replace the jewel once within an item of equipment.

Utilizing more jewels in a move will make it feel smoother, and is often used to enhance the aesthetics of the movement. The jewels can also enhance performance and create an outer layer that is more durable than steel so that repeated friction from pivots do not cause damage to the movement.

In addition to the above upgrades players can also acquire glyphs for their weapons and shields from a Glyphmaster. These glyphs give a slight boost in power and can be exchanged, however they're not guaranteed to show up as loot. Glyphs are upgradeable, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold, and also Scattered Crystal. Glyphs can also be removed and returned to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis and traits, are not swappable, and are only recoverable by using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets are a great way to give your character a variety of small, but useful, benefits. You can find them in the start-up area as rewards for personal stories or loot. They can also be obtained from vendors and by the completion of road interactions. They can be found on the Trading Post, or crafted by jewelers.

The first trinket a player is able to unlock is the cloak. It grants a small but useful bonus to speed of movement and evasion. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same manner to the way a player obtains weapons and armor. Each piece of gear comes with one upgrade slot that can accept either a universal upgrade or a jewel upgrade. Universal upgrades are smaller and are able to be used on any equipment. Jewels cannot be upgraded or replaced and are only compatible with certain trinkets.

These trinkets also grant additional bonuses and abilities that are active whenever the hero is not in combat. This allows the hero to be more efficient when they are not active. It can also make up for the lack of a good slot in the talent tree or team that are normally filled by the hero's optimal stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you aren't planning to replace in the near future, then any items with desirable stats, but less important than the iLevel of the item to be upgraded. This is especially true if an item has multiple stats that you wish to upgrade, as it's usually better to upgrade a single important stat rather than two sub-optimal ones.

In the beginning of the game, players in the jungle are likely to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one in the middle and top players usually choose a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices will have a significant impact on the hero's ability to control his map.

In addition to the items listed above, players will discover other trinkets in form trophies and rewards throughout the game. They can be obtained by completing certain milestones in the story. For example, completing the main quest of a chapter or beating a boss. You can check them out by selecting the achievement in the reward section of the hero's menu.
