Choosing a Large Bedside Cot Bedside cots (also known as co-sleepers and bassinets) are designed to let parents snuggle with their infant at night without the risk of SIDS. They are only recommended up to 6 months old, at which point your baby is ready to be moved to a bed. MFM home tester Mehack was impressed that this model features an adjustable bassinet that you can use in the home and an option to rock manually. It was also easy to assemble and came in its own travel bag for easy storage. Size Cots and cot beds vary in size, with cots being smaller than cot beds. Cots can also be converted into toddler beds. However they are typically used by children up to the age of three. There are two sizes of wooden cots - large and standard, which can be transformed into a toddler bed or a cot. The larger of the two is a good option when you want your child to sleep in it until they reach +/- three. MFM mum home tester Jasmine was pleased that this bedside cot was a little bigger than the Moses basket, but not too big for her baby's room. Jasmine says it's easy to get the baby in and out of the cot for night feeds or for soothing and that the quality is better than other cots she has seen that are less sturdy. Contrary to some International or European cot brands The Lora can be fitted with South African cot mattresses so you don't need to buy a new mattress as your baby grows. Height When you are choosing a cot for your bed be sure to choose one that can be raised to a height that's comfortable for you to feed your babies. This is ideal for mothers who are recovering from Caesareans or who have to stay in bed for prolonged periods of time. Jasmine, a MFM mum who tested this product at home, stated that it was simple to use and made it easier to reach her baby, especially after the C-section. Chicco Next2me Magic is another option. It was awarded Gold in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards to be the best Cot, Moses Basket, or Crib and has a machine-washable lining, reflux incline, and rocking feature. It's larger than other cribs for bed that we've tested, however it folds down into its travel bag, making it relatively compact when it's not in use. In its NPR in its NPR, the CPSC looked into the possibility of imposing additional requirements for bedside sleepers, like the requirement that these products satisfy the minimum side height requirement for bassinets or at the very least, meet the maximum height requirement for the lowered side rail. However, the CPSC concluded that such requirements would not be feasible or effective to reduce the amount of instances in which infants were trapped between a bedside sleeper and an adult bed. A majority of the incidents mentioned in the NPR concerned multi-use bedside sleepers which can be converted to other modes, such as play yards or bassinets. A number of commenters suggested that the CPSC include a different provision to the proposed rule for bedside sleepers with multiple uses which would permit them to meet the minimum side height requirements for bassinets by using an attachment that can be removed. The attachment can be permanently fixed or removed when the item is not being used as a baby bassinet. The CPSC is examining these comments and others received in response to the NPR regarding bedside sleeping. cheap bedside cot will be examining these comments when it decides on the final rule which is expected to be issued in November of 2021.
