Mid bunk beds come with a raised sleeping area with space beneath for storage or a desk and are popular with children from pre-teens. They're also more versatile than high loft beds because they can convert into two separate single beds.

Some are designed to appear more mature with a small ladder and petite steps leading to the bed at the top. They're also extremely sturdy.

Safety

Bunk beds are dangerous especially for children. Each year thousands of kids are taken to hospital for injuries related to bunk and loft bed usage - most of which are minor. The most frequent bunk bed accidents happen when children play around or on their beds, and a high proportion of them involve falling off the top bunk. There are several ways you can help minimize the risk and ensure your children's safety at night.

You must first select a bunk bed that is in compliance with all safety standards. Guardrails should be at least 3.5" on both sides of the bed and be properly secured to stop children from falling. The ideal guardrails should be at least 5 inches higher than the mattress foundation to provide additional protection against falls. The ladder should also be securely and securely attached to the bunk frame. Steps for the ladder should be constructed of sturdy materials and have wide, well-secured treads to avoid slips. From the very beginning, you must teach your children to use bunk beds correctly. This includes not playing vigorously on or around the beds, only sleeping on them and keeping their belongings and bodies in the railings at all times.

Other easy steps can help reduce the chance of having bunk bed accidents. These include ensuring the ladder is not being used as a climbing platform and that no belts or ropes are attached to the beds. They could create a strangulation hazard. To minimize the chance of bumping against ceiling lights or fans when climbing the ladder, you should keep the ladder from them. Also, you should periodically inspect the bunk bed for signs of wear and tear, especially any squeaks that may signal a malfunction or damaged component that may compromise stability or safety.

Beware of DIY bunk bed kits as they may not meet the most recent safety standards. Always read the guidelines of the manufacturer when purchasing a new bunk bed, and ask about any additional safety features they may provide.
