Types of UPVC Door Handles

If your door handle made of uPVC is in need of replacement, it's important to choose the correct replacement for your home. A locksmith can offer and install high-security uPVC door handles that come with additional security features.

The most important measurements to take are the measurement A (also known as PZ) as well as the length of the backplate. Take these measurements to make sure your new uPVC handle will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a solid bar that is pivotally positioned around a point (known as a fulcrum). When you apply force to the end, the fulcrum is likely to move in the direction of the force is applied. This motion increases the applied force, allowing you to lift or move something that would require more force if you tried to apply directly to the load.

The distance between the fulcrum and the point where you apply the force determines the distance the lever is able to move. This is referred to as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases when the lever is extended. You can calculate the advantage of mechanical by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the point at which you are applying force by distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.

Levers can have different effects based on the method by which forces are applied. For example, a class 2 lever has a tendency to turn in the opposite direction to when the effort force is applied (like a totter-totter). The forces created by pushing on the handle of a front door will result in rotational effects similar to these.

However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you exert by making a small amount effort applied over a long distance into a greater amount of force applied over a smaller distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport massive quantities of cargo. This is also the reason behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools, such as crowbars and fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brakes of your car.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also known as upvc door handles, have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in various finishes and variations and can be used on a variety of materials such as UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for both the outside and the interior doors with screws and spindles included. They are available in hand- and non-handled versions to meet the needs of different users.

They are typically used for new builds and can be installed to replace existing upvc doors. They are typically operated by lifting up the levers to throw all of the multipoint locks before turning the key to close or unlock. They are more secure compared to standard lever door handles as the locking operation can only be gained from the inside with a key unless the door is deadlocked.

They are not as secure as a cylinder bolt but are an affordable option to provide extra home security. The only disadvantage is that they do not offer the same level of security as a cylinder bolt and therefore won't prevent access from outside in the event that the door has been left open.

The majority of lever pad upvc door handles that we offer are manufactured by top manufacturers in the industry and are constructed using high quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's warranty.

Lever latches are by far the most simple kind of door handles. By pressing down on the lever, it triggers a simple latch mechanism inside to keep the door shut, and can be locked using a key. In certain situations the snib button can cause problems, particularly in the case of older locks and doors that are distorted. If the snib button is accidentally pressed by someone who isn't familiar with it, your door may be slammed and you locked out. Most of the time, you can be able to get in by knocking the door's frame or letterbox, however this isn't the best option.

This is achieved by an external 'pad' handle which locks in the gap between the handles and lock case to stop the latch from being removed or the door being opened.

This kind of operation requires the internal lever handle as well as the external pad handle to be installed within the same lock case.
