UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes the handles on your doors will get worn out and require replacement. It is essential to be able to match the dimensions of the old handles when replacing them.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's location, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to aid you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle is a modern door handle designed to work with new or replacement doors. This type of handle is available in a variety of styles and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The handles made of uPVC/Composite are made of tough materials and are ideal for multi-point lock doors that require a robust design. The handles are inline and they use the same screws and spindle to fix them. They can be easily mounted on new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The sprung lever design allows the handle to be positioned and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This ensures that the finish is of high quality and performance over time. The sprung lever can also be reduced to accommodate a wider range of locks. This is particularly useful for doors with narrower openings where the cylinder is situated further back from the door. A shortened lever is also a good choice for doors where the latch could be activated by the thumb turn located on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles used on the majority of doors. These handle types can either operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are typically employed on UPVC double glazed doors. They come in a variety of styles and finishes.

The handles have been tested to the minimum of 200k cycles and are available in several finishes, including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and resistant to corrosion. This gives the handle a high performance and durability for its intended purpose.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles come with a spindle and screws, allowing them to be put on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixation centers of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is typically an advantage when replacing an old or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have a spring, which solves the issue of door handles that move out of the horizontal position when not in use.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect of matching up the right handles.

When you have the right PZ size, you'll be required to make sure that the lever pads and push pads are a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you require for your doors. They are typically round or square, with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads we offer are spring-loaded. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal position after not being used instead of hanging, and possibly securing to the frame. This stops draughts from entering the building. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed versions which allows them to be put on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other types of doors. They operate by using a key to unlock a cylinder case that will reveal pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body, permitting them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. repairmywindowsanddoors.co.uk can be fitted with up to six pins with both internal and external doors typically requiring different levels of security.

Choosing the right cylinder is essential; it is dependent on the way your door and handle are used. For instance, doors that are external require an extra secure cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that increase security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.

To make sure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to each end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place, but when this isn't possible, you can remove it to measure. It is crucial to avoid having a cylindrical lock that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it susceptible to lock snapping attacks.

Most modern cylinders are designed with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This can help deflect the attack, and ensure your door is secure.

There are cylinders that have been designed to withstand snapping. This is a growing method of attack on cylinders where the break line in the lock is attacked with a special tool to break the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is faster and easier to achieve than gaining access through multipoint locks and leaves no evidence of a break-in which can impede the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found within the base plate of your door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to help return the multipoint lock handles to their original position after usage. These handles used to have no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was disengaged. The addition of this simple element is one of the most effective ways to fix this, and is an excellent way to stop your doors made of upvc from becoming stuck in an open or closed position, as these aren't always simple to manually close by hand.

The spring cassettes were made to be used with sprung multipoint locks. They will not fit handles that are not sprung and you'll have to cut a hole in your backplate for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes are a solution to damaged or missing cassettes on the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as a single unit. They feature a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes are a fantastic value-for-money way to fix the problem of handles on your doors sliding. These spring cassettes are easy to install and will increase the life of your uPVC door.
