Bedside Crib and Travel Cot

Bedside cribs are a type of cot that fixes to the side of your bed. They typically have one side that can be lowered down for easy reach, and some have an incline that's ideal for babies who have reflux.

MFM tester Georgina found this crib very simple to assemble and the instructions were clear, making it an easy and quick build. It folds down to the smallest size, and comes with a convenient travel bag.

Easy to assemble

Bedside cribs are usually easy to set up, and are on the smaller side to can be easily tucked away beside your bed. They are also lighter, which makes them more transportable. Georgina, one of our MFM home testers, praised the Maxi-Cosi Lora crib for being "super easy to build, with clear instructions and simple zips." This crib can also be used as a travel cot, and comes with a handy bag to carry it around traveling. It has multiple mesh openings for ventilation and its height adjustable allows it to fit on any mattress.

Some cribs for bedside use an additional side panel that can be lowered, giving you easy access to your baby without the need to get out of your bed. This is a great choice for mothers who are breastfeeding, or those who wish to remain close to their child throughout the night but don't wish to take the risk of co-sleeping.

Many models come with built-in rocking functions. This can be a very soothing experience for your baby and help them fall asleep. Some cribs offer a recline position that is beneficial in the case of reflux or colic. This position is best used under supervision and you should consult a doctor or health visitor prior to attempting it.

It's an ideal option for a mother recovering from a csection, since you can easily carry your baby out towards you for nappy or night feeds changes without having to get out of bed. Georgina also found it easy to set up however she was disappointed that the instructions could have been more clear about the zips.

Easy to clean

When you're looking at bedside cribs and travel cots, look for ones that have a mattress cover that is removable that is machine-washable. This will keep it clean and free of dribbles spills, and leaky diapers. You should also select one that is easily disassembled so you can clean and disinfect every nook and cranny.
