A resurgence of interest in classical pragmatism during the latter half of the 20th century has resulted in a number of new developments, such as a 'near-side' pragmatism that is concerned with the resolution of confusion and ambiguity, the reference of proper names, indexicals, demonstratives, and anaphors, as well as a 'far-side' pragmatics that looks at the semantics of discourses.
