Evolution Korea For a long time, the Korean scientific community was hesitant about engaging with creationists for fear of giving the movement more credibility. But silence is no any longer an option. The STR has been fighting to get information about evolution from textbooks including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestral bird. This is only one example of the way in which the development paradigm has changed. What is Evolution? Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic traits over time. The theory is based on fact that living things adapt to their surroundings and this can lead to changes in genes or even complete genomes. Over time these changes could lead to the emergence new species. Natural selection is the dominant theory of evolution. It describes how individuals who have advantages can reproduce faster and longer than those with less favorable traits. As time passes, this difference in reproduction may lead to the emergence of completely new species. The term "evolution" is derived from Latin for revealing or unrolling, has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has changed in both science as well as elsewhere. ???? ???? like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to change into a new species. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist disciple who came up with the term "transmutation" to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, criticized the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy’s student. More recently evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process when living creatures develop characteristics that improve their chances of survival or ability to reproduce offspring. As time passes this genetic variation can result in the development of entirely new physical or biological functions in the same population. Natural selection is the main force behind the majority of evolutionary changes. However non-genetic changes like the growth in the muscle mass as a result of diet or exercise can't be considered to be examples of evolution since they are not inherited by future generations. Despite the fact that evolution has stood the test of time and a multitude of scientific studies however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that the theory is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in high school textbooks. This includes the removal of all references about the evolutionary origins for humans and Archaeopteryx - a feathered dinosaur that is believed to be the ancestor of birds. Why is Evolution Important to Humanity? Evolution is the explanation for the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the pillars of biology, and helps scientists to understand how living things function and grow. Evolution also shows the connections between species. Scientists study evolution to better understand the natural world, and also to make important discoveries including the development of new medicines. The evidence for evolution of biological species is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that can explain so much about the universe and life on earth and has been thoroughly tested and confirmed over a long period of time. Many people, including religious leaders, believe in the scientific theory of evolution. It is important to note that evolutionary biology does not interfere with religions, since the theory only deals with things, events and processes in the physical world. Many religious people have found a way to reconcile evolution with their convictions. For ??????? , some Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution and that humans have an ancestral connection with other animals. It is crucial that science educators advocate for teaching evolution. In certain countries, the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made some progress in some states. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the removal of textbook content about the evolution of horses and the avian ancestor Archaeopteryx. It is crucial to keep in mind, however, that the evidence in favor of evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from many sources, such as fossils, genetics and the behavior of living creatures. Other scientists independently verify the evidence. The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reason for this is various reasons. Scientists are studying evolution to make practical discoveries such as developing new drugs and other treatments, while others use it to improve the lives of animals and plant species, mostly to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others hold a an intense faith in God. What is Creationism? Creationists believe that God created all things in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be believed to be true. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists typically fall into two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC). The YECs are the best known form of creationist, and they believe that God created the universe exactly as described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is true and that the universe and life on Earth was created only recently. OECs may be less popular however their beliefs are as passionate as those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and they believe that evolution is an untruth. Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles such as natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origins of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible because it would require the creation of a miracle, and the scientists who founded modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility. Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and refer to their belief as "theistic evolution.” This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of created kinds." In this belief system, God creates the original species, and then allows them to change over time. Then these evolutionary changes will result in new species identical to the original species. Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event known as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the original species were created at the same time, and that they evolved slowly afterwards. They also deny the notion of abiogenesis and claim that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable. In general, creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. This position is supported by a myriad of professional associations, including the National Science Teachers Association, the Association for Science Teacher Education as well as the American Anthropological Association, and the Geological Society of America. However, some researchers and educational institutions are more flexible and allow for the inclusion of both evolution and creationism in their curriculum. What is Creationism? When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. The publishers of high-school textbooks announced recently that they will remove references to evolution from their editions. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. STR has secured its first victory by removing examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx from textbooks. Its next target is to remove the finch-research of Darwin's famed and also on human evolution. STR claims to have the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. Its goal is to weed out what it sees as the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of the newest biology teachers revealed that around half do not believe in the concept of evolution. The reasons aren't evident, but they could be due to religious beliefs or the lack of creation scientists in the US. The KACR has achieved many things through its lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of them was a textbook on natural sciences with a creationist stance. It sparked interest in college communities. In 1991 an academic and minister began teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught to this day. On August 6 and 7, 1993, coinciding with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on the subject of creation science at major seminaries. KACR intends to establish a Creation Science Education Center.
