The Band Toto Asia Toto expanded its production facilities overseas, and was doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Toto saw North America as a growth market for Washlet's bidets and toilets, as opposed to its "base" markets of Japan and China. Dhaniram Toto was recording Toto words to ensure that the future generations would be able to read them. However, many of the words were replaced with foreign ones, such as dui from Bengali for verandah. Origins Established in 1917, Toto's early years were a mirror of Japan's economic growth. In the early years of its existence, the company made products to meet the demands of modern and contemporary urban housing. To achieve this, it employed the first tunnel kiln in the nation to make ceramics in a continuous flow. It also pioneered automation for production control, which allows for greater efficiency and consistency. In the latter half of the 1980s, the company began expanding overseas to take advantage of sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and marketing other manufacturers' products to complement its own lines of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy helped increase sales and increased the firm's market share in the world. In the 90s, Toto began to focus on research and development for water-related appliances. It also upgraded its system of distribution to better serve customers and boost profits. The company also employed the approach of just-in-time in its supply chain management as well as sales program. This resulted in a higher level of customer satisfaction. Toto has been able to continue to innovate on the toilet technology. The most recent toilet features an environmentally friendly, powerful tornado flush. Toto uses recycled water in its manufacturing process, and has a green purchasing policy. In addition to toilets Toto manufactures bathtubs and faucets, as well as hand dryers that are more energy efficient than typical models. The first museum of the company was opened in the year 2015 It has exhibits on Toto's seminal products and their development and its group companies (all related to ceramics), history of plumbing and other products such as bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum has the bathroom equipped with a WASHLET as well as other toilet innovations. Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group performed sessions with various musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich, guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather, drummer Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also played on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher. Discography With a name like Asia, you would expect the group to be prog queens and kings - but it's actually a fairly straightforward rock band. The group was formed as a four-piece and released two albums that were self-titled in 1979 and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. However, even though the group have a variety of musical backgrounds their biggest breakthrough was achieved in 1982 with Toto IV. The album was a huge blockbuster, but not without problems. Record companies put the band on position with the order "give us an album that's a smash or we'll sack you" and the pressure was on them to give it. Luckily for Toto they delivered, with the help of the smash hit single "Africa." Toto's musical mastery is the result of their prior experience. Before forming the group, the members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their distinctive sound has become the norm for '80s pop, and has influenced many modern artists. This album starts off hard with tracks like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write amazing AOR songs that slowly build their hooks into you. The album also has some more mellow, jazzy tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album concludes with Great Expectations, a song that mixes folk with distorted AOR and should sound completely wrong, but actually works wonderfully well. After Toto IV the band's fortunes began to wane. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career and the band had to go through various drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in after he was charged with drug abuse. the group continued to perform as a trio, which included Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather. Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It wasn't as popular as IV. However, the group was able to release a chart-topping album in 1992, Kingdom of Desire. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer. ????? ?? has entertained millions of people across the world, performing sold out shows in Europe, North America and Asia and also Australia and New Zealand. The band has a huge collection of songs, and their catalog has been heard over a billion times on streaming services across the world. The band's music has influenced many generations of fans. Steve Lukather and Joe Williams have forged a deep and vibrant friendship that flourishes professionally on a worldwide basis. In 2018 the duo celebrated 40 years of Tours Around The Sun with a hugely successful tour around the world. The album with the same name reached #5 on Billboard 200. The new tour of the band features their greatest hits and rarely live cuts, along with a selection of songs from Lukather and Williams' individual catalogs. TOTO has a Net Promoter Score of 20. Line-up The album's third, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of the previous albums. It was a more powerful, consistent effort that had an edge that was stronger than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album reflected the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's greater ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard work was also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on previous efforts. After touring to promote their album, the band recorded the band's Amsterdam live concert which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set entitled Falling In Between. The group released their new studio album a few months after and embarked on a world tour to help promote the album. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family. In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to find songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a double album titled Then & Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain the single track "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track "Kari-Anne". By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial flop and vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe case of laryngitis which hampered his singing. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck. Downes, Wetton Palmer and Howe, the original members of Asia were in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility that the group could be revived. This lineup, minus Howe (who was a member of Yes at the time) was later referred to as Toto XIV and toured extensively. In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured an appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
