This means that there is less necessity for other appliances such as toasters or warming plates.

When evaluating possible amendments to energy conservation standards, DOE conducts several analyses which include assessment of technology and market screening analysis, engineering analysis, and a national impact analysis (NIA). In this SNOPR DOE will utilize its existing engineering analysis on microwave ovens to determine what degree of efficiency improvements are technologically possible for this product category.

DOE will assess the microwave's design to the energy performance goals set in the engineering analysis. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.

As part of the NIA, DOE will evaluate the impact on consumers of each product category, including lifecycle cost savings and simple payback time ("PBP"). DOE will employ the Government Regulatory Impact Model, with an adaptation for microwavable ovens to calculate the industry's net present value (NPV).

DOE will also assess the impact on manufacturers and will employ an altered industry cash flow model specifically tailored to this type of product to calculate manufacturing NPV. DOE will also look at the impacts of these plans on small businesses as well as other subgroups of manufacturers to identify those that may be disproportionately affected.

Additionally, DOE will consider whether the test procedures for microwave ovens should be revised to include active mode energy use and an integrated active mode energy use measure. Currently, the test protocols only address standby mode power use.

Design

Wall ovens are based on the circulation of hot air evenly while microwaves rely on waves to cause the water molecules in food to vibrate and produce heat. built in oven with microwave combine two different appliances into a single unit that helps save kitchen space and provides a sleek, modern aesthetic.
