Choosing the Best Crib Newborn

The Westport Cot Bed is a minimalist crib that can look stunning in a Scandi-design nursery. It's also extremely flexible, as it has three different mattress support heights and can be transformed into a toddler's bed.

Bassinets are a better choice if you have a small home. Cribs can take up a lot more space. Many parents choose a crib because of security concerns.

Safety

The health and well-being of your baby's child is contingent on the crib you choose. You want to make sure that it is in line with current safety standards and is free of hazards that could cause harm during sleep. It should be well-constructed and sturdy, without loose pieces that may catch on clothing or pose danger of choking. It is also crucial to follow the manufacturer's instructions for assembly and use, and check the crib regularly for signs of wear or damage.

Be sure to measure the distance between the slats. It should be no more than 2 and 3/8 inches apart, to prevent your baby's head or limbs from getting caught between them. You should be in a position to be able to see and reach your child's crib. If you cannot, the slats should be broader and not as close together.

The mattress support system is an additional aspect to consider when choosing a crib. It should be adjustable, so that you can lower the mattress of your crib as your child grows. This will reduce the risk of your baby getting out of the crib as is a common situation as they begin to crawl.

Other safety features to consider include the fitted sheet that is able to fit the mattress securely and solid and stable construction. Select a crib that has fixed sides instead of one that has drop sides. Drop sides could be dangerous for your child. You should also share the same room with your baby until they are old enough to be able to sleep on their own.

Last but not least, ensure that the crib is placed away from windows and radiators, and that dangling items like curtains or blind cords are kept out of reach. You should also remove any items that could present the risk of choking such as blankets or pillows. Be careful when purchasing used cribs, as they may not be in compliance with the current safety standards or have been recalls.

Design

It is crucial to keep in mind that cribs can look similar, but must adhere to strict safety standards. For this reason, most of the cribs we reviewed are of a similar design to ensure consistency in terms of structural solidity. For instance, many have circular bars that do not have any gaps or rough areas that could catch or squeeze the baby. infant cot bed evaluated and rated each crib based on how easily it was to put together and use.
