Skoda Keys - Keyless Entry, Security and More

Skoda is a well-known brand for its value-for-money cars. These cars have a number features that make driving more convenient for the driver. These include a proximity unlock feature that unlocks the car when you approach it and a security feature which prevents the ignition from starting when the key has been put in.

Keyless Entry

Keyless entry is among the most sought-after features of new cars. You can unlock your car by simply walking up to it and activating it with your body, without needing to touch the key fob or handle. Certain systems also lock your car automatically after you walk away.

Whether you use this feature or not, it's important to know that it drains the battery inside your key fob faster than traditional key-based systems. This means that you'll need to prise open your key and replace the cell battery more often than with an older-style key.

Some of the latest variations of keyless entry can even let you unlock and start your car with the use of a smartphone application. You'll need an Android or iOS phone that has this feature if you choose to choose this option. You'll also have to make sure your mobile device has enough power for the task and also an internet connection that is wireless and the right kind of SIM card.

While keyless entry is a great convenience, it can also make some drivers feel nervous about leaving their vehicle in the car unattended. This is because thieves may attempt to amplify the signal generated by your keyfob to get the system to unlock your vehicle. UWB (Ultra Wide Band), a newer security feature for keyless entry, prevents this from happening by verifying the authenticity and timing of signals. The system can detect whether the vehicle is stationary or moving and then activate the brake to prevent it from slipping away when you stop or you are moving away from a junction. The brake will remain engaged until the driver presses an appropriate button to release it. This lets you concentrate fully on the road ahead, while being able to keep your hands free, and not having to reach down in your pocket for your keys.

Remote Control

In contrast to traditional keys that have to be physically inserted into the lock cylinder to unlock the car, keyless systems depend on a set of antennas within the doors. Whenever the key gets within one meter of the car, it sends a signal through these antennas. The system unlocks the car in the event that the key is present. It also activates the welcome lights in the car, if set up.
